Here is a post to reach any of the NPCs active within ALASTAIR. Please specify which NPC you are looking to reach in the header of your first comment.
As a note, NPCs will not always be available to reach. They are often busy on their own missions or with other mechanics within ALASTAIR, so please check to be sure the post is currently open before beginning a thread. ICly, a message sent to an unavailable NPC will bounce back to the character that had sent it as an unanswered echo of their original message.
The NPCs should be contacted for plot-relevant purposes and direction only. Think of them more as plot devices than characters.
At the earliest convenience, I'd like to speak about non-field options for those individuals who shouldn't be exposed such as minors. In addition to [ he remembers vividly his arrival in the middle of a war zone, ] what protections exist for those currently present who have no special abilities or natural defenses of their own to rely on.
Hey there, champ! You can call me Lloyd, and I'm your team's Personnel Resources contact. No need to be so formal; we're pretty casual around these parts.
Because concepts like adulthood and larval stages vary from species to species (not to mention from individual to individual!), we don't exactly limit the kinds of jobs recruits are allowed to take on because of their age. We trust all recruits to judge their own capabilities. But if you know anyone who doesn't seem to be enjoying field work, send them my way and I'll give them options!
We also trust recruits to look after their teammates, so as for what protections exist... well, look around!
This is in reference to my son who is too young. Mature for his age though he is, taking a ten-year-old boy without protection out of the relative safety of Oska isn’t something I can just accept. I keep him with me and I know others on the team will also look out for him and the rest of the kids. But things happen and if for whatever reason we become separated, he’s at risk.
[ a little pause. ]
What options are available if he were to stay here?
[ bruce will never convince damian to stay where it might be safe and, deep down, he knows it. but he prefers to operate under the assumption that the kid will do as he's told and not cause bruce to age prematurely.
Your son! Well, isn't that a bit of cosmic luck? It's rare we get families rifted in together.
There are a lot of support jobs available; there should be a list on your jewelcomm if you look at the personnel files. It all depends on where his interests lie. Of course, if he doesn't want to work at all, that's fine, too! We certainly don't force anyone into servitude here, and Oska provides plenty of food and distractions.
Though Bruce, I really should be having this conversation with the little scamp myself.
[ the assertion stands alone for a couple of seconds ( see: account name ) before bruce returns to the subject at hand. ]
The few I spoke with regarding the option had been largely uninformed on the subject. I'll keep you informed as to what I decide. And if I hear of anyone who would do better here, I'll refer them to you.
[ it's something. an option he is half tempted to take himself. wait their time out, help out in oska, instead. it's necessary, important work.
he cannot bring himself to request it. not for himself. smarter though he knows it be…it's not in him. ]
But before I let you go, I was told an armored version of the ALASTAIR uniform is available. What does requesting one entail?
Well, it looks like you've gone and requested one right here, so I'll get that out to you ASAP! Like I said, we're pretty casual around here.
As for the matter of your son, it's ultimately up to him! [ If Lloyd notices the controlling temperament in Bruce's correspondence (and he does), he doesn't mention it. Still, it's better to be upfront about this sort of thing. ] All our recruits are given full autonomy, so his place in ALASTAIR is wherever he decides.
[ a flicker of irritation colors bruce, that, for the sake of civility, he does not give voice to. the boy is ten. whether he likes it or not — and to hell with what anyone else thinks — he'll do as he's told. ]
It's for him. Not me.
[ a clarification. he should opt for one himself, god knows he's woefully underprepared for this sort of thing, but his son's safety takes precedence. with the memory of the assault on oska still fresh in mind, bruce would have him armored even if he does stay. a sentiment which bruce does go on to verbalize in part. ]
I could probably use one myself, but I'd rather see him protected first.

Does that clear things up?
