Here is a post to reach any of the NPCs active within ALASTAIR. Please specify which NPC you are looking to reach in the header of your first comment.
As a note, NPCs will not always be available to reach. They are often busy on their own missions or with other mechanics within ALASTAIR, so please check to be sure the post is currently open before beginning a thread. ICly, a message sent to an unavailable NPC will bounce back to the character that had sent it as an unanswered echo of their original message.
The NPCs should be contacted for plot-relevant purposes and direction only. Think of them more as plot devices than characters.
You know, it's kind of been lost to the annals of time at this point. Way before I got here. It was around before Oska got into the state it's in now, though. The castle just became an easy rallying point.
Does being a part of ALASTAIR worry you, Olivia? The world you come from is pretty small, right? Ylisse?
[ she is surprised by his knowledge, but a moment later she realizes she has no real reason to be... it makes sense that he would know of her world.
in fact, he must know of all their worlds.
somehow, the thought is comforting. ]
It is... Though I admit I never really thought so until I fell into that rift.
[ but now that he brings it up, she can't help but admit— ]
Sometimes I wonder if ALASTAIR might have been better off with anyone else but me. [ any of the shepherds back home would have surely done better, be more of an asset. ] There's so much at stake in what ALASTAIR does. I don't know if you can really afford to have such a screw-up like me.
[ her cheeks color in shame, and she has to glance away despite not having any gaze to shy away from. ]
I-It's nothing, I. [ she feels bad, taking his time like this. he must be an important person, with plenty of other stuff to do. ]
...It's why I was given these healing powers, wasn't it? [ her voice is quiet, low. she had always wondered, and now she might finally get an answer. ] Because I couldn't do anything else useful.
You were given healing powers because "it has been established that [you do] well in a support role". Officially, at least. Plus, your team keeps being short on healers.
...you mean it wasn't because I couldn't do anything else? [ had. had she been wrong all along...?
hastily, she scrambles to gather her wits, realizing he'd asked her a question. ]
I-I honestly don't know. [ she had been in the frontlines of a war before, had fought along with the rest of the shepherds. but she isn't sure if she'd ever felt that confident there. not like she did on the stage. ]
...Regardless, I'm thankful for these abilities. I'm still learning, but I've been able to help my team with them. Thank you so much.
Why in the world would we give power over life and death to someone incompetent?
(Don't answer that. Things fall through the cracks sometimes. Paperwork is the worst!!!)
Do you think Sieglinde is a screw-up because "all she can do is heal"? Poor sweetie can't even walk, and goodness knows that isn't a problem of yours, twinkle toes. ;)
[ olivia isn't very learned, but she isn't particularly dim either. sure, she has her moments, but more often than not she is able to catch on fairly quickly...
and yet some things she still does not fully grasp until it is spelled out for her. like now, her mind racing around that phrase: life and death, and lloyd's quiet words of encouragement...
she finds herself suddenly overwhelmed, but not wishing to show the other her tears, she ducks her head and hastily dabs at her eyes. a small bubble of laughter escapes her. now she just feels silly... ]
No... Master Sieglinde is one of the strongest people I know. [ she sniffles a little, feeling her chest bloom. though she's well aware that strength comes in different forms, it's more often the case she forgets to apply that to herself. ]
Thank you, Mr. Lloyd... If you ever find yourself with a holiday, I would love to dance for you one day.
A healer is the first person you see when you come into the world and usually the last person you see when you leave it. It's an important job. Respect that.
If you don't want to play that part though, that's fine. Any choice you don't make is a choice someone will make for you. Protecting your mind, protecting your integrity--that's the tough part in our line of work. Don't let other people decide who you become.
You can pick your own power upgrade next time, okay?
[ and that's how it happens. that's how alastair wins her over.
not that she is a particularly difficult win, for she had always erred on the side of caution and decided on giving the organization (or, at the very least, the people working for it) the benefit of the doubt. but it had mostly been for her own peace of mind, to soothe her conscience with the notion that the work they do is good, that it is for the good, even if sometimes it may not always seem like it.
but in just one simple conversation, lloyd manages to tell olivia exactly what she needs to hear. and not just for the benefit of her confidence or self-esteem (though that is surely great; there would be no downplaying the importance of that) but because of the sincerity of the texts. she's well informed of the way these devices work, after all; a text is a link straight from the mind, no filters. if a man as important as the head of personnel resources would deign to take the time to calm her worries... just as dagny had taken the time to answer her earlier questions in the middle of a harrowing mission...
then someone cares. perhaps she is truly too easy to please, but for olivia, that is enough. ]
...okay. [ don't let other people decide who you become. she'll definitely try to remember that. ]
Thank you, Mr. Lloyd. I honestly don't know if I can thank you enough.
