MISSION: CRUMBLING WORLD

MISSION:
CRUMBLING WORLD

All characters -- established, new, or guest starring -- will receive a form of this dossier to their devices. Thus, consider all information hereon as ICly available to all characters. Please direct questions here. There will be no Bounty Board for this mission.

CRUMBLING WORLD BRIEFING

Now that Zymandis's headquarters and most of its staff have been captured, the only threat left is the machine they receive their destructive orders from. As long as Zymandis's machine exists, its commands may still be picked up and the willful destruction of the multiverse will continue.

ALASTAIR technicians have been working around the clock to pinpoint the exact position of Zymandis's destruction-fixated TIMELINE.exe machine, and have finally located it: a crumbling world inside a half-decayed timeline.

Meanwhile, ALASTAIR scientists have devised a program update for ALASTAIR's own TIMELINE.exe machine. After thorough testing, 'TIM' has been successfully upgraded from 1.0.01 to 1.0.03, bypassing the 1.0.02 update that made Zymandis's machine thirst for destruction.

With this update, 'TIM' has announced that his calculations have been reevaluated and he now knows a way to save the multiverse from its eventual complete decay without having to fall back on Zymandis's tactics of hastening the destruction. The only requirement is to install the upgrade into Zymandis's own machine.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: UPDATE ZYMANDIS'S TIMELINE.EXE. Using a copy of the override code, you must locate Zymandis's TIMELINE.exe machine -- version 1.0.02 -- and install version 1.0.03.

OPTIONAL OBJECTIVE: DEAL WITH ZYMANDIS'S LEADER. Theodor Arbatel, Leader of Zymandis and creator of the original TIMELINE.exe, must be found. He may have answers about why he created the 1.0.02 update, but more importantly, he must be stopped from creating another destruction-based calculation machine ever again.

CRUMBLING WORLD OVERVIEW

Crumbling worlds are a common side effect of natural universal decay. Team Kittypaw's Uruz and Dagny come from one such world, their entire universe having been naturally destroyed by the energy crisis that resulted from the instability of its timeline. The crumbling world where TIMELINE.exe 1.0.02 is located is much the same: its universe can no longer sustain itself due to the lack of energy, so it is slowly breaking down, piece by piece.

At this point in a universe's life, there is nothing that can be done to save it. Evacuation measures are already underway by all currently available ALASTAIR teams.

Your team and several others are tasked with locating and overriding the Zymandis TIMELINE.exe machine. Several veteran teams, including Kittypaw, will be on hand to assist as well.

The planet itself has features common to crumbling worlds: floating chunks of earth no longer constrained by gravity, unpredictable lava geysers, and tremendous earthquakes that open up yawning chasms in the surface of the planet. Any animals that are still on the planet will be in a state of panic and should not be approached for your own safety.

Although technicians have been able to locate Zymandis's TIMELINE.exe, details about what kind of protection it has are unknown. None of the captured Zymandis agents -- both prisoners and those who have defected to ALASTAIR -- have ever seen the TIMELINE.exe in person, its location a mystery even to them, but judging by Zymandis's usual defenses, you should expect robot guards. Each ALASTAIR recruit will be outfitted with electromagnetic pulse grenades to slow any robotic assailants, as well as portable energy barriers to help shield you from attack.

The fate of the entire multiverse rests on the result of this mission. ALASTAIR must succeed in destroying Zymandis once and for all. Good luck, recruits.

Hello!

I have a quick question specific to the new log in a way, I think! Obviously changes are afoot and info will be revealed soon, but in terms of the most recent log, with the majority voting to go home (even though that will obviously change for some who want to stay and keep helping re: the problems revealed in the latter part of that post), I wondered what the IC options would be for characters who can't or won't return to their original homes? Characters like Pomar who don't actually have anything to return to?

I'm just asking to help me clarify what Gio's thought processes would be prior to the woman entering and asking Audentes to keep working on problems occuring thanks to the merging of worlds, seeing as he's decided Oska is his home and he wouldn't return to his own world no matter what happens. Like, if there would have been other options mentioned for characters who can't or won't go home? Sorry if this is worded badly, haha, and thank you!

Awesome, thank you! And would there be IC knowledge or speculation of what would happen to Oska/whether people could stay there or whether it'd just be abandoned or whatever? Prior to the new information about the problems with the merging worlds and whatever comes after that, ofc.

Sorry for all the questions! And obvs it's fine if there would be none/no time for any.

Hey mods! If someone were to loot the corpses of Arbatel and/or Hagith, would they find anything interesting... 👀

UNFORGIVABLY LATE QUESTION, but would it have been possible to a) sneak a small dragon into this mission, and b) conveniently bring him back to size when the Zymandis dragon showed up?
