HATHAWAY
Welcome to Hathaway! We are a diverse collection of fortune-hunting guilds that is available to many peoples all across the multiverse for a variety of jobs. We like to think of ourselves as problem solvers, first and foremost; our calling in life is to help the occupants of our multiverse with whatever they need, from toppling oppressive governments to protecting endangered spores and everything in between.
Each guild is managed internally, each with its own unique structure. Every guild has a guild master to oversee monetary concerns and to communicate with your clients on your behalf. You are part of guild [OPHELIA], whose guild master is [IMOGEN]. Guilds are transported to mission drop points by means of rift machines, which open up controlled tears in space-time to our exact specifications.
Hathaway offers an exciting benefits package for your work with us, including a generous stipend and per diem of local currency on mission (where applicable). Between missions, you have full access to our Headquarters ship, including luxury accommodations, training rooms, fine dining, intergalactic entertainment, and shopping.
Our most sought-after benefit is our retirement package, which is funded in part by your stipend. With Hathaway's connections throughout the multiverse and your guild master's tireless efforts, the sky is the limit* to what you can achieve working with us!
Note: all members of Hathaway are here on a volunteer basis. If you have reason to believe that someone is here against their will, please direct them to personnel resources or your guild master. All communication with personnel resources is strictly confidential.
*Ownership of actual sky not available for retirement package.

OPPORTUNITIES
Hathaway offers a wide range of opportunities, split between support work and guilds.
Support work includes, but is not limited to, personnel resources, magitek technicians and engineers, temporal specialists, multiverse analysts, scientists, sorcerers, medical personnel, and interuniversal relations. There are also a number of job opportunities for merchants, artisans, and other skillsets throughout Hathaway Headquarters to better serve the needs of support staff and guilds alike.
Guilds are comprised of a wide variety of beings from different timelines, cultures, and species, and vary in size according to multiple factors as overseen by personnel resources. Guild [OPHELIA] is cleared for a maximum number of [120] recruits. Work takes each guild to different universes where an eclectic mix of skills will increase the probability of success.
Volunteers often pull double duty in support positions if they have the proper skill set. Permanent transfers to a different guild or to a full support role are also available, as space allows. If you would like to fill a part-time support role, please contact personnel resources.

OPHELIA MISSIONS
 VIRIDIAN SEA.
Ophelia was hired by a band of pirates on the ship Little Squid, hoping to reach a treasure before a murderous, rival band of Mako (sharklike humanoids) pirates on their ship Red Scream. The treasure included a fragment of the temporal crystal, which was collected by Ophelia and safely destroyed before it could fall into the wrong hands.
HANABIRA.
Hired by a third party, Ophelia's primary objective was to figure out a diplomatic compromise between two warring empires who each laid claim to the same land. The Empire of the Crashing Wave, led by Empress Youmi, and the Land of Celestial Mountains, led by Empress Nama, had their different realities merged as a result of the Merging, and neither populace was pleased to share the land with the other. Through the efforts of Ophelia, Youmi and Nama were joined in marriage, thereby merging their empires as well and ceasing the conflict altogether.
AZERIA. A species of sapient, telepathic foxes called Vulphytes called upon Ophelia to help them drive back interplanetary invaders. The invaders, who turned out to be human, only learned about the Vulphytes's existence after the Merging. Ophelia was successful in driving them back and convincing them not to return.

SPECIES
FELIS SILVESTRIS SAPIENS.
HOMEWORLD: Terra Felis.
The F. s. sapiens is a sapient feline which appears to be a genetic subspecies of F. s. catus, a carnivorous mammal common to many garden planets. Where F. s. sapiens differs from its cousin is in its high intellect; the species is well-versed in space travel and is credited with inventing magitek. F. s. sapiens is an obligate carnivore, is prone to lower urinary tract diseases, and has a number of genetic allergies (Allium vegetables, caffeine, chocolate, grapes, citrus,
etc). The Terra Felis homeworld has a constitutional monarchy.
NALAWI.
HOMEWORLD: Nalawi.
The Nalawi (pronounced nuh-LAH-wee) are a bipedal species resembling those of the Cervidae family, native to the Nalawi island chain on the planet Nalawi. The Nalawi people are sapient and, despite their deerlike appearance, appear to be at least somewhat omnivorous, being gifted fishermen. The Nalawi once enjoyed supernatural powers but have recently been stripped of them; they have been observed as now reaching technological advancements akin to Iron Age societies. Once a meritocracy,
the Nalawi have shifted to a theocratic society.
QORRAL.
HOMEWORLD: Qorral Homeworld.
The Qorral (pronounced KOR-ahl) are a spacefaring species closely resembling humans and noted for their muted, sepia-toned skin and brightly colored eyes. Their society is aristocratic, run by a council and an elective monarchy. Once known for their colonizing and mining endeavors, the Qorral have in recent years turned their attention toward conservation efforts. They have a biological dependency on a rare mineral called argecite, which was once obtained through mining and now by trade. Many Qorral continue to heed the call of adventure and can be found throughout the multiverse as bounty hunters, poachers, and explorers.
TARAXA.
HOMEWORLD: Rax.
The Taraxa (pronounced tah-RAX-ah) are a small, sluglike species which originated in taking other species as "hosts" through an infestation of the brain; this effectively removes the host's personality irreversibly. Though there are many emancipated Taraxa, most live in close proximity to one another in communities called "hives," which is led by a Mother Taraxa. With the exception of several outlying hives, modern Taraxa only take living hosts on a volunteer basis, with most of them preferring mechanical or biologically-grown bodies.

MULTIVERSE
In the beginning, there was one universe. It was vast and eternal, and most importantly, self-sustaining. At some point in the distant past, a catastrophic event known as the Cataclysm split the universe into an infinite multiverse, each running parallel to one another. Some universes were completely different from one another, but in others there were only minute changes, barely noticeable at all.
An infinite number of universes could not exist where there was only a finite amount of energy to run them. This led to an energy crises, during which universes would burn out, destroying all that lived within them.
After the recent Merging, the universes that were only minutely different from one another have been fused together. Though this has solved the energy crisis, it has led to some confusion within the merged universes, known as fallout. The fallout manifests in ways where the minor differences could not be reconciled: for example, if two universes diverged in what political party was in power in a single country, there may be an upset. While fallout does not affect the stability of the multiverse, it can be quite alarming for the inhabitants directly impacted by it.
In addition to the fallout, there is the matter of temporal crystal shards scattered throughout the multiverse. The temporal crystal was detonated to induce the Merging, and as a result its shattered pieces spread throughout the timelines. While the crystals themselves are not dangerous, their innate powers are at risk of being harnessed by the wrong hands. Hathaway is equipped with ways to safely dispose of the crystals.

HISTORY
Thousands of years after the Cataclysm, a group of people from all across the multiverse banded together to investigate the energy crisis that threatened to destroy worlds. They called themselves Zymandis, and for even more thousands of years, they guarded the Timeline -- the true flow of time -- which would burn the least amount of energy.
Theodor Arbatel, a Zymandis scientist, created the TIMELINE.exe machine, a program that reached across the multiverse and calculated the best possible solutions to the energy crisis. Years passed, and Arbatel became the Leader of Zymandis. He updated his TIMELINE.exe machine to be more ruthless in the way it made its calculations, and before long, Zymandis was culling more worlds than it was saving.
A handful of Zymandis agents -- among them, Arbatel's daughter Ophiel -- did not believe in this new method, and defected. Stealing the original TIMELINE.exe code and returning to the original mission of preservation, they formed ALASTAIR.
Centuries passed with Zymandis and ALASTAIR's work continually canceling each other out until ALASTAIR struck hard, commandeering the Zymandis Mothership. With its home base gone and its forces crippled, Zymandis could not defend against ALASTAIR forces making one final attack against Arbatel's laboratory, killing him and disabling the TIMELINE.exe machine.
In Arbatel's lab, the ALASTAIR forces -- including a contingent of Zymandis defectors --
detonated a temporal crystal which finally Merged the multiverse together, ending the energy crisis once and for all. With its mission now irrelevant, ALASTAIR disbanded. Those who still felt there was work to be done went on to form Hathaway.
