Hi, mods! I have recently found this game and I'm super interested, but I noticed that the TDM already has like a ton of comments, to the point where Captcha is likely enabled on it, now. I'd really like to try out the setting before I give it a shot, though--will there be another TDM or an overflow before reserves open? Please advise, thank you!
Hello there, and thank you for your interest in Futurology!
Regarding your first question: because rolling apps rely on drops to 'clear space' in a capped game like ours, and we cannot predict drops, ultimately we can't know how long the wait will be. To give you an idea, so far we've had an average of 3-5 drops per month. So you can look at the number of apps in the queue and judge for yourself how comfortable you'd be with a potentially long wait.
On the second: if we received an app for a given character, and then a second app for the same, we would contact the second player and inform them of the situation. They would be informed as to how many spots remain between themselves and the first player, and if they choose to remain in the queue we will update them on whether or not the spot remains open after the first application is reviewed.
Thank you again, and if you have any further questions, please let us know.
Hi there! Thanks for being upfront about these issues with us; as Futurology is a capped game we strive to make sure all our players, both current and prospective, feel comfortable playing in a tight-knit game!
We don't have a policy regarding OOC conflict, aside from what's laid out on our rules page, which we invite you to look at. Our suggestions would have included everything you've already laid out for us; we believe that you're already on the right track, so you should be fine. Should problems arrive, we expect our players to communicate with us so we can find a way to answer everyone's needs.
Hi! We'd prefer to keep second accounts out of the game for ease of our own record-keeping, but we do appreciate you checking in with us on this. You're welcome to use it in inbox threads if you prefer, however comments made with a non-member journal won't count towards AC. If you have any more questions, just let us know and we'll get back to you ASAP.
I know during your last ac you asked players if they intended to return for S2. Some of those players did not place a reserve and have not yet turned in an app. Can new players app those characters when general apps open?
If they did not place a reserve, there is no hold on their character and they can be apped by anyone! The questionnaire during AC was not an official reserve.
Thanks for bringing this to us. As per our rules, we do ask that players attempt to contact other players with which they have problems -- IC or OOC -- before asking mods to take action; we believe some problems can be worked out by a constructive conversation, which is why we have this rule. The player in question has an HMD on their journal and has posted on the recent mandatory HMD. We suggest telling them what you believe to be the issue and possible solutions (such as warning for triggering content or not tagging you with it) while keeping an open mind and willingness to compromise.
If this goes poorly, you are welcome to return to us with records of the interaction. If it comes to this, we will also require more detailed criticism in order to make a decision; links to threads with proof of OOC behavior, canon examples, etc. would all help us with talking to a player you believe to be struggling to remain IC.
If you have any questions about how to proceed, don't hesitate to let us know.
Our HMD is locked to players only, so we can't enable anon. As stated on the HMD, mods are available to act as a proxy, although the crit must be written by the players themselves. Players have also been known to use sock accounts on private HMDs if they feel uncomfortable leaving it under their regular accounts, if you would like to leave it on the player's journal HMD.
To clear up any misunderstanding, we would be acting as a proxy in the matter of passing crit to a player; we will not pass along crit as if it had come from the moderators directly. We ask that you rewrite what you've provided as having come from you individually. If you are using "we" in regards to being from you and another person, please be aware that we do not allow group crit. All crit must be from a single person.
We also will not pass on crit that includes policing of someone's OOC behavior. As mods, we do not tell players what they can and cannot say on Plurk and Discord as long as they do not harass anyone, and we expect players to extend the same courtesy to each other. If you want the mods to pass on your crit, we ask that you remove the portion telling the player to stop discussing their game experience.
We also find the phrasing in this text to be accusatory and fringing on disrespectful to another player, and in accordance with our rule of being civil to one another, ask that you write this respectfully if you would like to pass it along through us. We can expand on our expectations regarding phrasing through a more private venue, such as a PM with you or private correspondence on this page where we do not need to unscreen our replies (in which case you will need to log into a Dreamwidth account).
Additionally, if you would like to use the mods as a proxy, we ask that you reply to us with a journal that is currently a member of the communities. As we pass along crit as a proxy for our players-only HMD, we can only accept crit from journals that are currently members of the communities, and we would just like to verify that you are a player in Futurology. This page is screened, and the mod team will never out a player who wishes to keep their crit anonymous; this is for mod purposes only.
If you would prefer not to proceed this way, you are still welcome to use the player in question's private HMD.
