SPECIALIZATIONS.

SPECIALIZATIONS
In Hathaway, all members are assigned a specialization. Specializations are based not necessarily on current talents, but on the potential for future talents; someone might be sorted into a specialization they're terrible at because someone saw potential in them. At times, this specialization will determine what training they receive or what tasks they are given.

There are 10 ranks to each specialization, with each rank coming with different perks, be they a new skill or better chances at using their specialization in plot-related scenarios. At Rank 5 in their main specialization, characters may sign up for a secondary specialization, which can only be leveled up to Rank 5. Skills associated with specialization ranks can be gained through the Bounty Board; characters will earn magitek trinkets that allow them to access these new abilities. Standard trinket forms are jewelry or special gems forged into a weapon (or other item), but it's ultimately your character's choice if they would like something different.

To change a specialization or to sign up for a secondary specialization, please see the canon update page. If a specialization is changed, your character will lose their previously earned abilities.

BRUISERS
Bruisers are the front-line fighters, trained in using both their fists and weapons. They are often daring, protective, and -- at times -- aggressive. Most of all, they show a willingness and a drive to fight, whether it's for others or themselves. While they aren't the only ones who will be involved in combat -- unfortunately, everyone will be at some point -- they're the ones who will be the most prepared for it, as well as the ones expected to protect the rest of their guild.

Occasionally typecast as ignorant meat shields, they are nonetheless extremely important; missions are often fraught with danger, and having a core group dedicated to fighting is the key to survival.

Bruisers are sometimes, but not always, assertive and decisive individuals. They are sometimes stubborn. They are often independent and confident, comfortable with working alone or giving orders just as equally as working in a group.

EXAMPLES: Battlemages, soldiers, superheroes. John Rambo. Lara Croft. Sailor Jupiter.

INVENTORS
Inventors focus on using their minds to create things of use, which may or may not be tangible. The most important aspect of an inventor is that they are creative in some way; they are always coming up with new ideas. Whether others think these ideas are good is unimportant. Although they're often clever, they might also be a bit arrogant at times due to their erudite nature.

While inventors are often tasked with technological problems, these are not the only skills valued in them. Chemistry, engineering, general problem-solving skills -- all of these are considered ideal traits in an inventor. The ability to produce something out of nothing is the most highly valued skill for an inventor.

Inventors are sometimes, but not always, rational and logical people. They are sometimes intelligent at the expense of social awareness. They are often meticulous and perfectionistic in their work.

EXAMPLES: Scholars, scientists, wizards. Tony Stark. Hermione Granger. Bulma.

NEGOTIATORS
Negotiators are all, without deviation, good at talking. They may be a gifted conversationalist, an excellent storyteller, or a natural leader, but their way with words is always their strongest attribute. Persuasion is a key tool in a negotiator's arsenal, and they often have a good degree of street smarts to back them up.

Socially intelligent, negotiators are often used as infiltrators or mediators when encountering a new culture on mission, as they are generally the most likely to pick up on subtle social cues -- or, if not, they're at least the most likely to succeed in smoothing things over.

Negotiators are sometimes, but not always, easygoing and dignified people. They are sometimes manipulative and selfish. They are often charismatic and adaptable to new environments and situations, able to quickly think on their feet.

EXAMPLES: Bards, diplomats, thieves. Leia Organa. Margaery Tyrell. Atticus Finch.

SENTINELS
Sentinels are the nurturers of their guild, concerned with both the emotional and physical health of their comrades. While many sentinels are healers -- doctors, nurses, shamans, and the like -- this is not a prerequisite skillset for being a sentinel. Their most important qualities are their empathy and patience, and to be a comforting source for those in need.

Their desire to help others is not limited to sapient beings; sentinels can have a strong connection to the natural world and may feel more at home among animals, as in the case of druids or herbalists. Pacifism is also not a necessary trait, with some believing that the best way to defend someone is to enter the fray with a drawn shield.

Sentinels are sometimes, but not always, absent-minded or somewhat uptight. They are sometimes timid and insecure of themselves. They are often selfless and helpful, prone to sacrificing their own safety for others.

EXAMPLES: Caretakers, healers, paladins. Aerith Gainsborough. Colette Brunel. Doctor Zoidberg.
